The HH Partnership LLP
We Make Leaders Better
Who We Are
Many team leaders across all types of organisations have never had any instruction or guidance in leading teams, which according to a report in 2023 by the Chartered Institute of Management has severely impacted productivity, staff turnover and ultimately profitability.
The HH Partnership is a boutique firm created by two former army officers to help address this issue and provide team leaders with the foundational knowledge and practices that enable effective team leadership.
Poor leadership is linked to poor staff retention, lower productivity and toxic workplace culture. Chartered Management Institute 2023
82%
As many as 82% of new leaders in the UK are ‘accidental’ leaders, starting a role with no formal training in management or leadership which leads to low staff engagement and inconsistent performance. Chartered Management Institute 2023
74%
74% of all employees are disengaged (defined as being psychologically unattached from their role). Gallup Employee Survey 2025
The HH Partnership was specifically founded to address the challenges faced by the ‘accidental’ leader, those new to leadership positions and any team leader feeling uncertain about their responsibilities and how best to approach them.
We believe that leadership coaching is best done by those who have themselves led, and that this is most productive face to face. Coaching via online programmes will struggle to be as effective as engaging in person.
Having programme leaders and coaches who have been in the shoes of those attending the courses is crucial for ensuring credibility and mentorship where needed. ‘Follow-up’ interaction will further help develop knowledge and skills.

Working With Clients
We engage with clients in four ways:
· Foundational Team Leadership Programmes
· Small Group Coaching
· Executive Coaching
· Leadership Development and Evaluation Courses in the Wild.
Foundational Team Leadership Programmes
We have constructed standard courses based on Army leadership training fundamentals adapted for the corporate environment. These provide the building blocks for confident and effective leadership. We believe that every team leader, irrespective of type of organisation, should know what the core competencies entail and how they can improve their existing practical and personal skills.
Our one-day course is divided into clear themes where each underlying subject is deliberately covered in an interactive and engaging manner. There will typically be two course leaders who will cover and lead the programme, and time on each topic will include debate, questions and analysis relating to the course leaders’ own experiences and the specific problems and challenges that attendees currently face.
A two-day course also includes two additional topics, first the significant effect of AI on leadership and second, Organisational Behaviour.
If clients want course content to be delivered over periods of ‘half days’ then this is possible. We advise firms to select no more than six people to attend a course. This is both an individual as well a group experience, so smaller groups ensure more effective outcomes.
Where organisations have a particular need regarding leadership coaching such as needing a course and programme to suit different levels of seniority and for it to be delivered over a specific period then we will happily exchange views and discuss viability.
Small Group Coaching
We also provide small group coaching for those facing similar issues and challenges. This can be a one-off event or a series of events. It might also follow one of our Foundational Team Leadership Programmes. We would not recommend groups larger than four.
These sessions can be highly interactive and achieve much, but the key is for both coaches and clients to be perfectly aligned on objectives and outcomes. We encourage clients to sponsor courses for their own employees, but we also run courses where multiple organisations are represented.
Executive Coaching
Far too often team leaders have no mentor or sponsor with whom they can speak about the leadership and other challenges they face. They will not readily ask for help from HR departments, and they will likely not seek advice from peers. A coach who can switch between mentorship, advice, instruction and coaching will be an important resource.
We recognise there are many interpretations and definitions of coaching. Ultimately, the coach’s ability to meet the needs of each client is paramount. Success in coaching will always depend on the personal dynamic between coach and client, as well as the client’s understanding and acceptance of the approaches the coach might take.
We will only engage with clients where we believe good personal relationships can be developed, and importantly, where a firm is sponsoring the coaching of an employee, we are crystal clear about the boundaries and ongoing confidentiality that a three-way relationship demands.
Leadership Courses in the Wild
We work alongside partners who specialise in helping conduct courses outside the office and invariably in places considered ‘challenging’. We create programmes that can both develop leadership skills and evaluate leadership potential. These courses are based on military assessment courses and are adapted for the corporate environment. We believe leaders can be ‘made’, and often it is these types of courses that can uncover potential no one thought to find.
These programmes demand input from HR departments and sponsoring entities so that there is complete agreement on aims and objectives. The amount of ‘challenge’ can be adapted to suit the level required by the client firm.
Resources and Reach
The HH Partnership has strong links within corporate and military spheres. We can draw on diverse sets of experience and expertise at senior and C-suite levels where we and clients feel it warranted.
The important criteria for our associates are that they have a military background and have worked within corporate or other environments. The former is important because our whole philosophy is founded on leadership training within the military, and the second is necessary so that they have a solid understanding of how the two will overlap.
